Maggie’s Soap Nuts:
THESE WORK!!! This must be the most eco-friendly non-toxic laundry and cleaning product out there. These are nuts from the Soapberry tree, that’s it! They grow naturally in Indonesia and the company is moving towards fair-trade and wild harvest certification. One tree’s nuts support an Indonesian family for a year. By buying these nuts you are also preventing deforestation in areas where these tree’s are a natural flora.
You take a few nuts, put them in the provided cotton pouch and then do laundry. So simple it’s actually shocking that it works so well. After the nuts don’t soap anymore, throw them in the compost. How great to buy a product that is 100% biodegradable and safe. How great to know that you are not contributing to putting more toxins in our water and earth, and that eventually means less in our bodies. I’ve tried other brands that claim to be eco-friendly like 7th generation, and then reports come out to show they contain cancer-causing chemicals! With these nuts, you know it’s straight from nature and not a man-made or over processed “natural” material.
You can also use these nuts to make a “tea” (brew them) and use the solution to clean windows, your hair, dishes etc.
IDEAL FOR SILK AND WOOL
SAVE WATER, SAVE ENERGY
NATURAL FABRIC SOFTENER
Interesting note, ALL man made soaps are made with lye, Maggie’s soap nuts are NOT because they come straight from the tree:
Can you make soap without lye (sodium hydroxide)?
No. The only way to make soap is with lye. Saponification, the process where oils are mixed with a lye-water solution, cannot occur without lye.
